Luke Parkinson is a Tasmanian wood turner whose work celebrates the natural beauty of locally sourced specialty timbers. Mentored by experienced artisans including Darryl Freestone, Luke began woodturning in 2020 and quickly developed his own distinct style—blending traditional techniques with a clean, contemporary aesthetic.

Based in Tasmania, Luke handcrafts each piece using sustainably sourced native timbers, carefully finished with eco-friendly rice bran oil to highlight the unique grain and warmth of the wood. His commitment to environmentally conscious design extends to every aspect of his practice, including plastic-free packaging.

Timbers used include Huon Pine, Sassafras, and Blackwood (depending on availability)

Timber guide:
Huon Pine – Pale yellow timber with a fine, even grain and a rich, resinous scent
Sassafras – Pale cream to light brown, sometimes streaked with dramatic black markings
Blackwood – Golden brown timber with a tight, silky grain and deep natural warmth
